Mason employee Frederick John “Jack” Trayers Jr., 72, passed away on Monday, April 23, at his home in Fairfax after an illness. Memorial services were held April 27 at the Bellarmine Chapel on the Fairfax Campus.
Trayers is survived by his wife, Carol, office manager for the Department of Applied Information Technology; two daughters; one son; and two grandchildren.
For more than seven years, Trayers worked in the mail service department at Mason. He decided to come out of retirement and begin working for Mason shortly after his wife took a position at the university.
“He used to come to the English Department every morning for quite a few years delivering our mail,” says Stacey Remick-Simkins, program coordinator in English. “He always joked with me and was always full of sunshine.”
Prior to coming to Mason, Trayers worked for the United States Postal Service for more than 30 years.
