Name: Andrea Nikoi

Current Position: Administrative manager in finance and human resources for Life Sciences at the Prince William Campus

What she does: “I have a multitude of responsibilities, both written and unwritten, for centers and departments affiliated with Life Sciences — fiscal, grant and contracts, and human resources and payroll, just to name a few. I draft and revise departmental procedures to comply with university regulations, provide training and assist faculty, staff and students in various capacities. I provide recommendations and support to make sure functions are efficient. There are many aspects where my assistance is required: space, security management and life science operation. I work with many departments across campuses.”

What she enjoys most about her job: “I enjoy the challenges, people and work. In my job I interact with many people with diverse backgrounds — culturally, academically and professionally. Each brings a uniqueness into my life. I have a love and concern for people. Each day brings a learning experience that enhances and expands my growth, and the people I work with are wonderful.”

What she did before coming to Mason: “I’ve been at Mason for over 13 years now. In the past, I have worked at another university and a community college as well as in private industry. My background is very diversified in the realms of business in the areas of accounting, banking, finance, HR, management, marketing and retail.”

Most memorable Mason moment: “We’ve had so many — the various smiles and sad goodbyes of colleagues, the creation of centers and schools. Mason has gone from four buildings to five campuses. In such a short time, Mason has accomplished a lot. We are so widely recognized for so many things.”

What others say about her:

“Andrea is organized, well informed, always cheerful, helpful and loyal. Her work ethic is impeccable. She is an exceptional employee. Andrea makes a significant difference in our office.”

—James Willett, professor, Department of Molecular and Microbiology, Biosciences

“I was immediately struck with Andrea’s sheer depth and breadth of her knowledge, both in her specialist area, as well as in more general terms with respect to procedures that cut across numerous divisions and organizational units within the university. Her confidence and apparent command of this information provided me with the peace of mind to focus on my own tasks of setting up my laboratory and getting organized for course instruction, since I knew that I could rely upon her to ensure that all the procedural elements surrounding new faculty hires were well in-hand.”

—Daniel Cox, assistant professor, Department of Molecular and Microbiology

“She has an amazing knowledge and experience with the policies and procedures at Mason, and thus provides a wealth of resources in her department…From my experience, there is little (if anything) that Andrea cannot do.”

—Karen Schlauch, Boston University School of Medicine and former Mason faculty member
