On Wednesday, April 4, the Film and Media Studies department will welcome noted film scholar Murray Pomerance to an open lecture in support of his new book, “Johnny Depp Starts Here,” chronicling the career of actor Johnny Depp. The event, titled “Deep Depp,” will be held at 3 p.m. in the Johnson Center Cinema.
Pomerance comes to Mason to lecture and discuss the world’s general fascination with celebrities, specifically the Oscar-nominated actor who has appeared in recent films such as “Finding Neverland” and the “Pirates of the Caribbean” trilogy.
The film and media studies program says the event will be an in-depth exploration of celebrity and pop culture.
Pomerance is a professor of film studies at Ryerson University in Toronto. He also authored “An Eye for Hitchcock,” “Magia d’Amore” and “Savage Time.” He will sign copies of his book immediately following the lecture.
The event is free and open to the public.
